Stephanie Heitkemper, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, FT
Stephanie Heitkemper, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, FT, is the co-founder of Attuned Minds Collaborative and the owner of Resilient Minds Counseling in Denver, Colorado, where she specializes in trauma-informed, grief-focused care for children, adolescents, and families. Her work is grounded in the understanding that trauma and loss are not isolated events, but lived, embodied experiences that influence emotional regulation, attachment, neurodevelopment, and meaning-making over time. Stephanie provides clinical services in both Colorado and Texas.
Shaped by her experience growing up as a third culture child—moving more than 15 times within a U.S. Army family—Dr. Heitkemper brings a nuanced understanding of transition, disruption, and resilience. She integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), play therapy, and expressive, sensory-based interventions to create developmentally attuned, culturally responsive, and psychologically safe spaces for healing.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and Fellow in Thanatology, Dr. Heitkemper blends clinical expertise with relational depth. Her work emphasizes co-regulation, clinician attunement, and the therapeutic power of play as core components of trauma-informed care. She is particularly skilled in supporting children whose grief is communicated through behavior, movement, and symbolic expression.
With over a decade in private practice, Dr. Heitkemper is also an experienced trainer and program developer, equipping clinicians, educators, and organizations with practical, evidence-informed strategies to support grieving youth. She has served on the Board of Directors for HeartLight Center since 2017 and on the board of the Colorado Association for Play Therapy since 2026. Outside of her professional work, she prioritizes sustainability and self-regulation through early morning CrossFit and exploring Colorado’s natural landscapes.
